Terms of Use
1. Who we are
Hykr (hykr.me) is operated from India. We provide a hiking app and, for guided hikes, a place where independent guides publish and — in future — sell their trips. We are not a tour operator and we do not lead treks.
2. Your account
- You must be 18 or older to hold an account.
- Give accurate information, keep your sign-in secure, and do not share your account.
- You may delete your account at any time. We may suspend an account that breaks these terms, puts people at risk, or is used to deceive others.
3. What the app is, and is not
- Routes are suggestions, not guarantees. A trail on the map may be overgrown, washed out, closed, or simply wrong. Elevation and times are computed estimates.
- Time estimates are models. They assume a fit walker and ignore weather, snow, load and how you feel on the day.
- Offline maps cover what you downloaded. Areas you did not download will not appear on the trail.
- SOS is not a rescue service. See the Safety and Emergency page. It sends your position to contacts you chose and records the alert. It cannot work where there is no signal, beyond showing you your own position.
- Batteries and phones fail. Carry a map, a power bank, and the judgement to turn around.
4. Content you add
- You keep ownership of your hikes, photos and writing. You give us permission to store and display them in Hykr, and to show published content publicly on hykr.me.
- Publish only what is yours to publish, and do not upload other people's photos, identifiable images of people without their agreement, or anything unlawful.
- Do not publish a route you have not walked, and do not describe a hike as easier or safer than it is. Both get content removed.
- We may remove content or restrict an account where there is a safety, legal or trust problem, and we will say why.
5. Organised hikes
- An organised hike is run by the contributor who publishes it. They set the route, the meeting point, the group size and the pace. Your agreement for the hike itself is with them.
- Hykr checks a contributor's identity, qualifications, insurance and state registration before they can lead, and stops their listings when any of those lapse. That is a check, not a guarantee of their judgement on the day.
- Joining means checking in at the meeting point so the coordinator knows who is present.
- You must tell the coordinator about a medical condition that affects your safety, come equipped for the conditions, and follow their instructions during the hike.
- A coordinator may refuse or end anyone's participation for safety reasons.
6. Contributors
If you lead hikes on Hykr, you additionally agree that:
- You hold — and keep current — the registration, qualifications, first aid certification and insurance your state requires, and you give us proof. Compliance with local law is yours; we help and verify, we do not carry it for you.
- You obtain permits, make any filings the state requires for a trekking party, and follow route, season and camping restrictions.
- While leading, you keep your phone charged and tracking enabled, and carry a power bank.
- You describe your hikes truthfully, including difficulty, altitude and what is not included.
7. Paid treks
Paid bookings are not live yet. When they launch: guides set the price, Hykr takes a commission that is stated publicly, the money is held by our payment provider until shortly before the hike, and each hike page carries its own cancellation and refund terms. Those terms will be published here before any payment is taken.
8. Acceptable use
Do not misuse the service: no scraping or bulk download of map or hike data, no attempts to break access controls, no false SOS alerts, no spoofed locations or faked check-ins, no harassment of other users or guides, and nothing that puts another person in danger.
9. Liability
- Hiking and trekking carry inherent risks — terrain, weather, altitude, wildlife and your own condition — which cannot be removed. By using Hykr and joining hikes you acknowledge those risks.
- We provide the app as it is. We do not promise it is uninterrupted, or that trail data is complete or accurate.
- Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including for our own negligence or under consumer protection law.
10. Changes and law
We will update these terms as the product grows, and material changes will be notified in the app. These terms are governed by Indian law, and disputes are subject to the courts of the place where Hykr is registered, which will be named here once the entity is settled.
11. Contact
hello@hykr.me. A grievance officer will be named here before paid bookings launch, as Indian e-commerce rules require.
This is an early draft describing the product as built. It is pending review by an Indian lawyer and will be finalised before any paid booking is taken.
