Delete your account
You can delete your Hykr account at any time, without asking us. It is permanent and immediate.
In the app
- Open Hykr and go to the Me tab.
- Scroll to Delete your account.
- Read what will be removed, type
DELETEto confirm, and delete.
This works in the Android app and at hykr.me in a browser. You need a connection, because the deletion happens on our servers as well as on your phone.
By email, without installing anything
Write to privacy@hykr.me from the address your account uses, asking us to delete it. We will confirm and then delete it. We aim to do this within seven days, and we will tell you when it is done.
What is deleted
- Your profile, display name and sign-in.
- Every saved route and recorded hike, on your device and in your account.
- Every photo you uploaded, and the positions recorded with them.
- Your emergency contacts, and any SOS alerts you raised.
- For contributors: the hike pages you published. Their links stop working for everyone — anyone who saved one will get a "no such hike" page.
None of it can be recovered afterwards, by you or by us. There is no grace period and no archive. If you only want to stop using Hykr, signing out is enough.
What we cannot delete straight away
- An upcoming hike with people booked on it. If you are the coordinator of a departure that travellers have joined, deletion is refused until you cancel it. They are expecting to meet you on a mountain, and cancelling is what tells them.
- Ordinary backups. Our database backups roll off on their own schedule, so a copy may persist there for up to 30 days. It is not readable by the app and is never restored selectively.
- Records the law requires us to keep. There are none today, because Hykr does not yet take payments. Once paid bookings launch, Indian tax rules will require invoice records to be retained, and this page will say exactly what and for how long before that happens.
